Infinite Game OS

This is the founding article for the Infinite Game OS.

The OS has been operating underneath my life for a few years. It's been kind of swirling around without a name. Now I have a name for it, and I have structure around it. The clearest way in is to start where I started. With Simon Sinek.

Sinek, the doorway

I read Start With Why years ago. It shifted a lot of things for me. I had a lot of respect for him going in. So when The Infinite Game came out in 2019, I read it pretty much immediately.

I got a lot of cool things out of it. The reframe of challenges as Worthy Rivals stayed with me longest. Shifting challenges from bad to "Oh wait, this is actually trying to help me, almost like a sparring partner." I've been working with the concept ever since I read his book. I wrote my own version of it in 2023, after I'd lived with it long enough to make it mine.

The strangest thing about reading Sinek was that the book felt more spiritual than the content of the book actually was. I don't know if he was meaning to do it or not. It just felt like he was trying. I don't know if that was just my own reflection or what I was moving through at the time. He was writing for organizational leadership. Corporate teams. I was reading him in a different lane.

What I'll say is that he held a doorway open. A wider audience encountered the Infinite Game because of him, in language that worked in conference rooms. The doorway was real. I walked through.

The lane I was reading him in

In 2018, before Sinek's book came out, I went to Peru. That really awakened a lot of things. By the time The Infinite Game hit in 2019, I was already moving through these kinds of spiritual things. Spirit. Infinite awareness. What is reality.

So I read Sinek through that lens. The Infinite Game wasn't a leadership concept for me. It was a beautiful concept that I felt didn't have the depth that I was looking for. So I just began exploring and tinkering and philosophizing with what he might be pointing towards. Or perhaps he wasn't pointing towards that. I have no idea.

I just kept building upon it. I made it my own. I made up my own practices. The version of the Infinite Game I'd come to was already gaining its own depth, and Sinek's frame served as a structural handle while the thing underneath kept building.

Carse, later

A few years passed before I read Carse.

Finite and Infinite Games (1986) is the source text. Sinek pulled from it. I knew that going in. What I came to find is that Carse himself reads more philosophical and less spiritual than I expected. To me, at the time, he was beating around the bush about what he was speaking to. Beautiful. Dense. More philosophy than spirituality. Less of what I'd already been moving through.

I respect the book. By the time I got to Carse, I'd been living a more embodied, more spiritual version of the Infinite Game for years. Carse was the deeper philosophical scaffolding. He was the source. Sinek was the doorway. The thing of my own had moved past framework into practice.

What I didn't yet have was a name.

The years between then and naming

Naming a thing is its own kind of work. You can run an operating system in the background for years before you realize you're running it.

I left the military in 2017. Special forces background. Mission critical. Serious mission planning. Life and death situations. Combat. Life was kind of serious for me for a while. When I got out, life was very purposeful, and I carried that purposefulness into everything. Coffee was purposeful. Reading was purposeful. Conversation was purposeful. It served. Around 2020, I noticed I needed to be more playful.

Around the same time, a friend made a comment in passing. We were talking about video games, which I didn't have many of growing up. I'd play at his house when I was a kid. Grand Theft Auto, mostly. The big open one. He said, "Lane, you just like to go on the side quests. The extra missions. Finding the hidden boxes, diving into the waters to find the thing nobody else really finds."

I'd never thought of myself that way. The moment he said it, I knew it was true. Not just about video games. About everything.

What if life worked the same way?

All these things began to coalesce. The Infinite Game as the wider container. Side quests as the finite games nested inside it. Play as the daily texture. Adventure as the orientation. Worthy Rivals showing up as the friction that polishes. It was just a gradual unfolding.

On the digital side, I built Self-Mastery OS in Notion several years ago. Codices, structures, governance. I shared it as a downloadable for anyone who wanted to use it. Beautiful work. People got value from it. It was a bit static, though. There wasn't a connectivity to dynamic updating through AI. You had to change things by hand.

A little over a year ago, I built the next iteration. Intrinsic OS, this time on Obsidian. Sharper bones. Richer connections. AI was almost ready. Not quite ready yet. Close.

Now my digital Kingdom is on Obsidian with Claude Code. The philosophy is platform agnostic, AI interface agnostic. The codices have started talking to each other through me. Updates propagate. Patterns surface. The same governance principles I'd spent years writing into Self-Mastery OS, and then into Intrinsic OS, can now run as living infrastructure inside the Kingdom.

That was the moment the OS became the OS. Not a system on the page. A system running in real time, in a sovereign digital space, in service of a human life played as the Infinite Game.

The OS, named

So here's what I've been operating under.

I'm calling it the Infinite Game OS so I can speak about it coherently. The name itself isn't all that important. A kid doesn't really care what the playground is called as long as they're having fun. The name is the structural organization that lets me share the thing. If someone resonates with it and wants to call it something else, that's fine too.

The Infinite Game OS is the operating system for a sovereign human life played as the Infinite Game. It's the philosophy, the architecture and the practice all in one place. Not a framework laid on top of life. A way of running life from the inside.

The orientation is Joyful Sovereignty. The sovereign choice to welcome alive energy through the body. Power without performance. Joy as confirmation that the architecture is working, not as motivation to keep going.

The compass is Aliveness. It's always present. The variable is what the human follows. Following Aliveness is how the Infinite Game keeps playing. Following the conditioned script, the inherited "this is how it's supposed to be done," is finite-game strategy mistaken for living.

The practice is the Three Movements of Embodiment. Think the philosophy. Act on it. Embody it until the practice runs without effort because it has become identity. The musician's arc. Scales practiced until they become invisible, leaving only the play.

The Player is the practitioner. Pioneer is the energy that emerges when the ground has no precedent.

The Kingdom is the digital wing of a three-plane life. Subconscious, digital, physical. The Kingdom organizes focus, energizes chosen creations and illuminates patterns. It's one wing of the architecture, not the whole bird.

That's the OS in its most compressed form. The site you're reading is its public expression. The work that rolls out over the coming months is the OS being lived in real time and shared, piece by piece, as it earns its public voice.

Where it goes

I don't know where it goes.

I trust that I'm being guided and ushered in the most beautiful ways. The mystery is the point. Surprises around every corner. Wonder all around. The thing that could only be discovered by walking through.

The trust isn't in the OS. The trust is in myself. The OS is the conceptual organization of how I speak about how I trust myself. It has tangible structure I can share. The trust itself is intrinsic. The OS is how it gets explained.

I feel solid in my bones to courageously step into uncertainty. The trust is already underneath every step.

This is the founding moment. The OS is named. Now is the moment I share it. Where it goes, I have no idea. Anyone who feels the resonance is welcome to walk this with me.
